On July1-29,2019 the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (UNS) and the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) held a joint summer school dedicated to “Modern Physico-Chemical Methods in Chemistry. Fragrances and Fine Chemistry”.  Apart from lectures, the summer school’s program included practical studies, master classes and intense cultural program.

The summer school was attended by 10 students from the UNS and 10 students from the RUDN University. The first part of the program (July 1-15, 2019) was held at the RUDN’s premises in Moscow where students studied the fundamentals of the physico-chemical analysis, operated the innovative equipment and tested materials on their own. The cultural program in Moscow included a guided tour of the Armoury Chamber in the Kremlin, a boat trip and a visit to the Arkhangelskoe memorial estate.

On July 15-29, 2019 the students attended lectures, master classes and practical studies at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis. They studied the theory of fragrances, the history of perfumery and the ways of producing various volatile oils. Also, they got familiar with modern trends in the fragrance industry and marketing capabilities. The cultural program included trips to a number of cities where production facilities, museums and botanical gardens related with the fragrance industry and its primary products were situated.

Owing to the format of the summer school, the students managed not only to exchange theoretical skills as regards laboratory-based work methods and operate the state-of-the-art equipment, but also get a better idea of the history and culture of Russia and France.
